Seasonal colours and English apples at West Hampstead Farmers’ Market

This lovely farmers’ market opened on the forecourt of West Hampstead Thameslink station late last year – and is now a firm favourite with locals, including me, as well as people who come from further afield to check it out.

It’s not enormous but as they say, it’s all about quality not quantity. Arrive early as the stalls regularly sell out before the end of market. You’ll find fish from the Essex coast, free range and organic meat and poultry, free range and organic eggs, game in season, artisan bread and yummy cakes, the freshest fruit and veg in season, gorgeous flowers from the farm and more. Amongst my favourites is the apple juice stall – where you get to taste all the different juices, each made from a different English apple.

I love the how the colours of the market change depending on when you go and what is in season. You don’t get that (or the friendly banter of the stall holders) in a supermarket. When you’ve finished your shopping you can pick up a cup of tea or coffee and sit in the sunshine or head off to one of West Hampstead’s other lovely cafes for a drink or some brunch.
